Job Description
Grocery Receiver
Purpose: To ensure prompt, friendly, customer service and neat, clean, safe and attractive grocery departments. To coordinate receiving of product, and to ensure receiving areas and departments are fully stocked and maintained in a clean, orderly condition. To ensure accuracy in ordering and delivery and we are paying the agreed upon price for all of the product.
Status: Full time. Reports to Assistant Grocery Manager.
Pay Level: III
Union wage scale $19.90 - $21.40 per hour based on previous years of experience.
Responsibilities:
Customer Service
Model exceptional customer service skills.
Provide staff and customers with accurate product information including source, uses, nutrition, and preparation.
Report customer suggestions and comments to appropriate management.
Accurately and completely record and file special orders.
Work effectively with customers from various cultural backgrounds.
Department Maintenance
Ensure backroom is clean and organized at all times.
Assist with pulling and putting away backstock.
Ensure that retail and storage areas are maintained in clean, orderly condition, meeting Health Department rules and store safety regulations.
Ensure safety of staff and customers, respond to emergencies and safety hazards.
Ensure safety and quality of all grocery products by monitoring storage conditions, temperatures and shelf life. Discount short dated/damaged product.
See that unsellable items are returned for credit or disposed of.
Keep receiving and pricing equipment in working order.
Notify Grocery Manager of maintenance or equipment problems.
Communicate supplier issues and shelf/product needs to Dept. Buyers and Replenishment Buyers.
Ordering and Receiving
Work with Assistant Grocery Manager in the design and implementation of procedures for ordering, receiving, inventory tracking, and back room organization.
Coordinate accurate and efficient ordering, receiving, and stocking of grocery departments.
Coordinate receiving for other store departments as needed.
Meet all a.m. delivery trucks and check in orders.
Prepare storage areas for incoming deliveries.
Coordinate deliveries to ensure they are stocked in a timely fashion.
Coordinate and track receiving of new and demo products.
Verify and code invoices.
Ensure returns are appropriately stored and credit is received in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned
Perform other tasks assigned by Assistant Grocery Manager or Grocery Manager.
Work with Assistant Grocery Manager with on-the-job training for department staff.
Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
Attend department and all-staff meetings.
Serve as Floor Warden in case of any emergency
Work effectively with co-workers from various cultural backgrounds.

Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift.
Ability to bend and lift loads up to 60 pounds. Push and pull carts weighting up to 300 pounds.
Ability to push and pull loaded pallets weighing up to 2,000 pounds with manual pallet jack.
Handle environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, freezer, etc.)
Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 60 pounds
Preferred
Warehouse/receiving experience including use of manual pallet jack
Experience with retail natural foods and customer service.
Experience with retail purchasing and inventory control.
Receiving Software experience.
Experience with POS systems.
Experience serving the needs of a multi-cultural community.
Multiple language competencies.
