Case Manager Job Description

Position: Case Manager

Status: Non-exempt, Full-time

Salary: $45k per year

Summary: The Case Manager at Sexual Violence Resource Center of the Bluegrass (SVRC) plays a vital role in supporting survivors of sexual assault by providing trauma-informed case management, advocacy, and resource coordination. This position ensures that survivors receive the emotional support, community referrals, and assistance needed to navigate legal, medical, and social service systems.

Essential Duties:

Direct Client Support

  • Provide trauma-informed case management to survivors of sexual assault, including crisis intervention, emotional support, and safety planning.
  • Conduct intake assessments to determine client needs and develop individualized service plans.
  • Connect clients with appropriate resources, including counseling, medical services, housing assistance, and legal advocacy.
  • Advocate for clients within systems such as law enforcement, healthcare, social services, and the criminal justice system.
  • Offer accompaniment to medical exams, court hearings, and other necessary appointments as needed.
  • Crisis Line/MA On-Call Duties as needed

Resource Coordination & Advocacy

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and national resources for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Develop and foster relationships with community partners, service providers, and agencies to enhance resource accessibility.
  • Assist clients in applying for victim compensation programs and other financial assistance when applicable.
  • Provide education and advocacy to help clients understand their rights and available options.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation of client interactions in accordance with agency policies and grant requirements.
  • Ensure all services are compliant with relevant legal and ethical standards, including confidentiality laws.
  • Prepare reports and case notes for internal tracking and grant reporting purposes.

Community Outreach & Training

  • Participate in outreach efforts to increase awareness of available services.
  • Assist in training volunteers, interns, and staff on case management best practices and trauma-informed care.
  • Represent the organization at community events, coalition meetings, and professional training(s) as needed.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and dedication to SVRC’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Completion of 40-hour advocacy training provided by SVRC, and 12 hours of continuing education yearly.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience in case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, or a related field. Experience working with survivors of trauma is highly preferred.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and best practices in supporting survivors.
  • Knowledge of sexual violence dynamics, legal systems, and victim rights.
  • Strong crisis intervention, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills.
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and advocacy abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and community agencies.
  • Proficiency in maintaining confidential records and case notes.
  • Ability to pass background check and reference checks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Desired Qualities

  • Residents of the seventeen-county region preferred. The region includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, and Woodford counties.
  • Spanish-language fluency (preferred but no required).
  • Knowledge of dynamics of trauma and impact of sexual violence.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication.
  • Ability to adapt to crisis situations and work under stress.
  • Strong time management and decision-making skills.
  • Experience with anti-violence work and prevention.
  • Ability to perform other job duties as assigned.

  • Work Environment: The duties of this position are performed in a typical administrative office setting but also require traveling. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level of the environment is usually minimal.
  • Equipment: Typical office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, projector, printer, display materials, group polling technology, etc.
