The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.

Under general medical and nursing direction performs specialized clinical nursing duties in hospitals, clinics, health centers, and individual homes, as part of a clinical team, manages the nursing care of a selected group of patients; provides education, training, information and consultation services to registered nurses, public health nurses, and others in the area of specialty, which may include Psychiatric Nursing, Maternal Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Medical Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Public Health Nursing, or others; and performs related duties as required.
Requires responsibility for : Developing, interpreting, coordinating and implementing new and existing policies, methods and procedures for nursing care in a specialized area; interpreting specific areas of staff and patient need in specialized nursing programs; keeping informed of current practices and trends in the specialty area and incorporating them into practice; working in cooperation with other members of a multidisciplinary health team, making professional contacts with a variety of public and private agencies and with members of the community.

How to qualify
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse License : Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Verification of experience, education, licensure and possession of valid certifications / certificates may be collected at any time during or after the recruitment and selection process (i.e. Higher education, professional licenses, certifications).
Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
Desirable qualifications for this position may include :
Possession of certificate in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing from NCC or AACN or certified by AACN.
Critical care experience within the last year or within the last three years if taken time off to obtain APRN degree. Bedside nursing, leadership, and CNS roles are considered experience.

Selection Procedures :
After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following.
Candidates will be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
Training and Experience Evaluation : (Weight : 100%)
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a Training and Experience Evaluation that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas that have been identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position.
The link to the training and experience evaluation will be provided to the candidates via email to the address listed on the candidate’s online application. Candidates will be required to respond to the training and experience evaluation in the time frame indicated and must submit the completed questionnaire as directed to have it evaluated. Responses cannot be changed once submitted. Candidates will be evaluated based on their responses. Candidates must achieve a passing score on the training and experience evaluation to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.
Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
Certification
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of Ten Scores.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
