This role demands a high level of professionalism, autonomy, and expertise in evidence-based practices and community supervision trends.Responsibilities of the RoleUnder general direction of Senior Leadership, the APD Division Director is responsible for organizing, planning, and directing the activities of a major division of the Adult Probation Department. Key responsibilities include : Leadership and Representation : Represents the department at community events and engages with various stakeholders.Operational Oversight : Manages Supervising Deputy Probation Officers (SPOs) and monitors casework.Program and Policy Development : Oversees grants and special projects.Staff Management : Responsible for recruiting, training, evaluating, and recognizing staff.Budget and Reporting : Assists in budget preparation and tracks performance metrics.Training : May lead the department’s firearms and internal training programs.Reentry and Client Services : May assume a leadership role at the Community Assessment Services Center (CASC).How to qualifyMinimum QualificationsEducation : Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, psychology, criminology, or a related field.Experience : Five (5) years of professional experience as a probation officer or community corrections officer.License : A valid California Class "C" Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required.Substitution : A law degree, master’s degree, or doctorate may substitute for one year of supervisory experience.Desired Qualifications : Knowledge of the legislative process, relevant laws, and evidence-based practices.At least two (2) years of supervisory experience equivalent to Supervising Adult Probation Officer.IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of : Existing codes, ordinances, laws, regulations, and evidence-based practices relating to probation services.Skills : Developing and implementing training programs.Advancing equity and inclusion through trainings and policy development.Ability to : Interpret and apply laws and regulations; manage conflict; and demonstrate superior communication skills.How to Apply : Applications for City and County of San Francisco jobs are only accepted through an online process.
