Job Description

Our Wheelchair Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the efficient deployment of wheelchair services throughout the airport. This role involves scheduling and dispatching wheelchair attendants to assist passengers with mobility challenges, ensuring timely and effective service. You will monitor flight schedules, passenger needs, and attendant availability to optimize resource allocation and response times. Additionally, the position requires maintaining clear communication with airport staff, attendants, and passengers to facilitate a smooth and supportive experience for those requiring assistance.

Responsibilities

WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK AS A WHEELCHAIR DISPATCHER

  • You like working as a team, toward a common goal
  • Coordinate the dispatch of wheelchair services throughout the airport terminals
  • Respond promptly to requests for wheelchair assistance from airline personnel and passengers
  • Manage the scheduling and routing of wheelchair attendants to maximize efficiency
  • Track the availability and location of wheelchairs and mobility equipment
  • Maintain clear communication with airport staff, including gate agents and customer service representatives
  • Ensure compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines and airport regulations
  • You have a great attention to detail
  • You enjoy working with a team or individually to accomplish your tasks
  • Like to build long term relationships with your customers
  • Physical activity may include:
    • Stand and walk for extended periods of time
    • Ability to lift 70 pounds or more and able to push a wheelchair with an adult in it
    • Be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by terminal environment
    • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, to include documents
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous experience in dispatch, or customer service
  • Ability to physically assist and transport passengers in wheelchairs
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and tablets
  • Ability to pass a drug screen
  • Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)
