What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at SGL Group?
SGL Carbon's North American Shared Services Center in Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters SGL Carbon, LLC in North America. The Shared Services Center is comprised of approximately 50 employees who support the SGL Carbon Business Units by providing quality services, leadership and accountability through excellence, teamwork, open and continuous communication, integrity and passion for success. All key administrative functions are represented at the Charlotte, NC site.
What to expect:
Ensures proper cost accounting and inventory valuation is in accordance with Corporate and local policies and guides
Execute month-end cost accounting close procedures for the sites, including necessary month-end journal entries, functional area alignment by profit center/product line, and certain account analysis
In coordination with local site controller, review and understand causes of monthly/quarterly manufacturing variances with site controllers and prepare a summary of results
Coordinate any Annual Inventory Count (physical stock taking): provide inventories in scope (population & transition to balance sheet), post differences, and support roll forward and audit requests, where required. Travel to site, if necessary to manage count.
Prepare, review and update activity rate analysis for the appropriate cost centers at the site in coordination with local site controller
Perform inventory standard costing and valuation, including prepare and update cost standards for material and labor in SAP
Prepare North American inventory valuation using the material ledger, where appropriate
Review quarterly analysis and prepare overall summary memo on the inventory reserves for individual legal entities, including all sites
Coordinate with local site team(s) the annual Ghost Asset and Useful Life review. Discuss and document findings/actions with local site controller and summarize results in a memo
Ensure fixed assets and construction in progress are recorded in accordance with Group guidelines, including annual useful life review and physical observation (where required) and assisting Sr. Tax Accountant with property tax returns
Fixed asset accountant responsible on Capital Appropriation Requests, where needed, with duties including determination of capitalizable costs according to accounting manual and fixed asset accounting policy, I-project creation in SAP, review of construction in progress, timely project closure and final capitalization to depreciable asset in SAP fixed asset module
coordination and execution of fixed asset counts at site according to site ICS controls and overall fixed asset accounting policy.
Supporting site controller with budget and forecast process on cost center/profit center level, especially in regards to distribution and assessment setup for plan and actual, as well as SAP input.
Participate in annual audit and special projects, as required.
Review and validate requests for physical inventory cycle count adjustments. Book appropriate cycle count adjustments in company ERP system (SAP).
What we are looking for:
Knowledge and understanding of International Accounting/International Financial Reporting Standards (IAS/IFRS) and/or knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Knowledge of SAP software a plus, especially FI, CO, AA, PCA
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem solving and customer service skills.
Self-Starter, analytic thinker, excellent organizational skills
Ability to successfully prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work well with and respect different cultures (intercultural sensitivity)
Skilled in handling confidential business matters and information with discretion
Impeccable ethics, integrity, and standards
Fluent in English and preferably other languages
Solid proficiency in Office365, and familiarity with SharePoint plus
4-year college degree (preferably Accounting)
2-4 plus years related work experience,
CPA license not required, though preferred
Must exhibit a professional appearance and mature demeanor
Essential functions of this job:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, stoop, reach with hands and arms, lift tup to 20 pounds including standard office supplies and furniture, close vision with ability to adjust focus; able to remain in a stationary position at least 75% of the working day and occasionally move around the office.
Office Environment
Required to be physically present in office; occasional travel and visits to sites of company, customers, or vendors; must wear appropriate required personal protective equipment at sites. Hybrid remote working available.
