Inside City Hall
Nederland operates under a council-manager form of government. The Mayor is elected at-large, and the City Council consists of four at-large members. While council members must reside in their respective wards, all elections are citywide. The City Manager provides executive leadership, fiscal oversight, and strategic direction for Nederland.

The City Manager reports directly to the City Council, this position ensures the effective management of city operations and the delivery of high-quality municipal services. Key responsibilities include overseeing all city departments, managing the city's budget, leading infrastructure projects, and serving as a primary liaison with business leaders, residents, and external agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
Our next City Manager must have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, business administration, Finance, or a related field, a minimum of seven years of municipal administration or closely related experience, the ability to be bondable, and a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within three months.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field as well as a proven track record in capital program management, infrastructure planning, and financial sustainability. Technical knowledge in community development and a strong ability to modernize city systems and processes is also a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is targeted at $175,000 to $195,000 DOQ/DOE. Comprehensive medical, dental, and life/AD&D insurance at no cost to employees. Dependent coverage, supplemental life/AD&D, and vision insurance available. Generous paid vacation, sick and holiday leave. Participation in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 7% employee
contribution and a 2:1 municipal matching ratio.
