Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our operations within a clinical environment. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and customer service skills, making it essential for the Technician to effectively interact with both patients and staff. A strong background in medical office procedures, anatomy, and physiology will be beneficial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care and Interaction:
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, taking medical histories, and reviewing eye-related concerns.
- Provide patients with instructions for pre-exam procedures and answer questions regarding eye health.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Diagnostic Testing:
- Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, tonometry (IOP), refraction, slit-lamp examinations, and keratometry.
- Assist with specialized testing such as OCT (optical coherence tomography), visual fields, and fundus photography.
- Record accurate test results and ensure proper documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment, including autorefractors, retinal cameras, and diagnostic instruments.
- Ensure that equipment is calibrated and in good working condition; report any maintenance issues.
- Assisting with Procedures:
- Assist the ophthalmologist during minor in-office procedures, such as injections or laser treatments.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and supplies as needed.
- Patient Education:
- Provide patients with post-exam instructions and educate them on prescribed treatments, medications, and follow-up care.
- Counsel patients on proper eye care and assist with scheduling follow-up appointments.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with administrative duties such as patient scheduling, phone triage, and ensuring that patient charts are complete.
- Coordinate with medical staff to ensure smooth workflow and optimal patient care.
Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or certification in Ophthalmic Technology preferred.
- Previous experience in an ophthalmology or optometry practice is highly preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) is preferred, or willingness to pursue certification within a designated time frame.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic procedures, instruments, and testing protocols.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with patients and staff.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods during patient exams and procedures.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
