Summary:
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is a strong communicator and financial analyst who streamlines the budgeting and financial reporting processes. The Controller also produces thorough financial-status reports for leadership to help improve the operational efficiency of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct & coordinate all accounting operational functions
- Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Oversee and support Managers of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements
- Coordinate activities of external auditors and tax advisors; manage and finalize annual audit and IRS Form 990
- Provide information and financial data for long-term financial planning
- Maintain General Ledger
- Monitor daily bank account balances and make necessary transfers
- Reconcile monthly bank and stock account statements
- Prepare quarterly endowment schedules
- Complete quarterly state/county tax filings (not payroll related)
- Initiate investment transfers as directed by CFO and outside investment advisor
- Interface with Development Office to process all gifts and oversee proper gift allocations
- Serve as initial contact with property and casualty insurance broker on risk management related activities, including preparation of annual renewal applications
- Maintain inventory logs for Online Store and fuel supply
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the CFO
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit organization.
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Software, especially Excel.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or related field
- Five or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager.
