Description
Shady Side Academy’s Middle School is seeking an Art teacher to teach 7th grade Studio Art from August 18th - October 17th. This position is short-term, full-time, and a temporary leave replacement.
Responsibilities will include:
· Teaching 7th grade Studio Art classes
· Running a thoughtful and intentional advisory group
· Teaching a Studio Art class during the Activities period.
· Working as a part of a team with students who are eager to learn
· Being an integral part of a caring community of learners
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have:
· A depth of knowledge and understanding of middle school students
· A passion for working with young people
- Demonstrates excellent classroom management
- Experience teaching in a classroom setting, Middle School preferred
- Ability to work in a shared classroom space
· Sensitivity to diverse communities of learners and an appreciation of developmental differences in a middle school setting
· A knowledge of 21st century skills and how they relate to classroom teaching
· A comfort with and understanding of working with multiple mediums in the classroom
· A willingness to collaborate with other members of the faculty on interdisciplinary projects
A bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Education is required, further degrees a bonus. Ideal candidates will have middle school teaching experience, an understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, superior interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor.
