Softball Coach

Shady Side Academy is seeking applications for an Assistant Varsity Softball Coach. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the capacity to coach high school athletes in support of Shady Side Academy's mission, which is to challenge students to think expansively, act ethically and lead responsibly. Additionally, the successful candidate will model Shady Side’s Guiding Principles: Honesty, Kindness, Responsibility, Respect and Safety. These principles not only guide Shady Side’s daily activities and interactions, but they also point to the larger, more encompassing ideals and behaviors of integrity, thoughtfulness, and compassion integral to all endeavors at Shady Side.

Schedule Info:

• Our season runs from the beginning of March until the middle of May - coaches are expected to be available throughout the entire season with few absences.
• On practice days, coaches will need to be available from 3:30pm until 6pm (practices run 3:45-5:45).
• For away games, coaches may need to be available as early as 1:30pm (though it's usually more like 2/2:30).
• For home games, coaches will need to be available from 3pm until around 6:30/7pm.

Additional Info:

• Candidates for this position should be prepared to ride the bus with the team to away game locations
• This developing program focuses on softball fundamentals, building a positive team culture, and balancing hard workwith having fun. Our main focus is not winning every game, but improving each and every day.
• The starting pay for this position is $3,000 per season, commensurate with experience.
• Exceptional candidates will express serious interest in sticking around for multiple years, with the intention of taking over as Head Coach in the next couple of years.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

• Coordinate athletic planning and program development and that focuses on student-athlete’s performances, personal and leadership development
• Prepare student-athletes for competition
• Develop, recommend, and implement specific training/conditioning programs and skills development programs
• Maintain standards of team behavior and regard for team rules and expectations
• Ensure adherence to rules, regulations, and policies of all governing bodies (Shady Side Academy, WPIAL, PIAA).
• Work in coordination with the Director of Athletics, head coach, other coaches, and staff to support and achieve overall goals established by the athletics department
• Work with other students, faculty, and staff to support the retention of student-athletes and promote teamwork, set high standards, support the academic, personal and leadership development of its students
