General Purpose:
Performs complex machining operations in support of manufacturing activities from a variety of rough sketches or drawings that serve as input. Work is completed under direction and/or guidance of the department Lead.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working from drawings and engineering instructions, build to specification parts, tools or fixtures for development, model shop or prototype projects.
- Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, screw and milling machines.
- Executes assignments using manual and CNC mills and lathes and other available tooling.
- Determine and prepare and jigs or special attachments needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints or drawings necessary to complete assignments. Prepare own layouts.
- Use micrometers, vernier calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure in-process or that finished product matches specified tolerances.
- Perform maintenance and cleanup of work area.
- Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions using precision measuring tools.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Solid working knowledge of shop mathematics.
- Intermediate level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate various tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment.
- Intermediate level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Swiss Screw Machine experience desirable.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None.
Education and/or Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent training.
- Minimum of two (2) years machine operations experience and/or enrollment and completion of apprentice program.
- Preference given to candidates with experience on screw machines.
