Position Overview
To ensure the safety of all pool patrons while as a lifeguard. Providing quality and individualized swim instruction to swimmers of all ages and abilities in an enjoyable and supportive environment.
Essential Functions
Lifeguard
- Maintain vigilant supervision of the pool area, enforcing safety policies and procedures to create a secure environment for members and guests.
- Evaluate conditions regularly and activate the aquatics emergency action plan when needed.
- Employ proactive accident prevention strategies; respond to emergencies with expertise and in accordance with established protocols.
Swim Instructor
- Teach private and group swim lessons, focusing on technique, skill development, and individual progress.
- Enthusiastically greet and engage swimmers, fostering positive relationships and encouraging a fun atmosphere during all sessions.
- Provide clear communication and constructive feedback to swimmers, celebrating achievements and setting realistic goals with guardians after each lesson.
- Prepare for lessons with a flexible plan that adapts to participants’ needs while keeping focused on fostering skill development.
General
- Be approachable, visible, and supportive to all pool patrons, enhancing member satisfaction through positive interactions.
- Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water quality to ensure safety and usability.
- Arrive punctually for all scheduled shifts, meetings, and activities.
- Maintain cleanliness by organizing swim lesson equipment and ensuring the pool arear remains neat and organized.
- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and club policies.
- Maintain a professional image and positive interactions with members, swimmers, and fellow employees.
Qualifications
- Certifications/Licensure
- Current lifeguard certification along with CPR and first aid certification are required.
- Experience/Skills
- Experience teaching swimming to youth of all ability levels in private lessons and small groups.
- Experience developing curriculum based on each swimmers ability level.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with swimmers and their families.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and handle stressful situations calmly.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- This position is primarily outdoors, requiring work in varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, wind, and occasional rain. Must be comfortable working in an outdoor aquatic environment for extended periods while maintaining vigilance and ensuring the safety of all. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, as well as sit/stand for extended periods of time. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, etc.
Work Schedule and Hours
Lifeguard shifts occur daily from the last weekend in May through the first weekend in September. Swim lessons daily. Specific schedules will vary.
