What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Financial Controller position at Sharp Shopper Grocery Outlet?
Sharp Shopper Grocery Outlet, a retailer of closeout grocery products with eight stores in Pennsylvania and Virginia, is searching for a Corporate Financial Controller to join our team. We are looking for an experienced professional who will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
Responsibilities to include:
- Manage all accounting operations including A/P, A/R, P/R, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Supervise accounting department consisting of three persons
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
- Prepare and publish timely financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Execute timely periodic and year-end close processes
- Prepare year-end financial reports and tax returns and coordinate with outside CPA firm
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Cash management and flow
- Provide guidance and input on financing and banking matters
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Strong understanding of GAAP as well as “best practice” accounting policies and procedures
Our preferred candidate will have:
- Proven working experience as a Controller
- 5 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
- Advanced degree in Accounting
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and periodic/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and experience working with general ledger systems
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and project management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Independent worker and self starter who is self-accountable
