JOB TITLE: Principal
REPORTS TO: NLCS Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
- Implements the administration, supervision, and evaluation of all programs and activities, curricular and co-curricular, within his/her building in accordance with Board of Education policy and Indiana Law and Standards; provides leadership in the planning and supervision of the educational program; provides leadership in staff development with regard to curriculum/instruction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curricular Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices;
- Conducts staff meetings and collaborative sessions necessary for the proper functioning of the school;
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based on student learning styles;
- Have demonstrated effective educational leadership experience and knowledge and has a strong vision of transformative teaching;
- Collaborate with staff to assess, develop and implement school-wide initiatives to address social-emotional wellness;
- Will work collaboratively with others to advance the schools’ educational model and goals and will cultivate a team approach to data-driven decisions, improvement of instruction, and achievement of goals and vision;
- Use all available research and data to evaluate and improve the instructional program and team efficacy;
- Implement all components of the teacher evaluation program;
- Operational Establishes effective procedures for student discipline during school hours and at all school activities sponsored by the school;
- Supervise and evaluate the school’s extracurricular programs;
- Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual;
- Assumes responsibility and supervises the operations of the buildings, grounds, and other school property for the health, safety, and well-being of pupils, teachers, and patrons; reports needed major building and equipment repairs to the Director of Facilities;
- Can develop authentic and effective ways to engage parents and the community in the school;
- Maintain timely and informative communication with the Superintendent, staff, students, and parents regarding school programs, events, issues, and success;
- Identify and implement strategic professional growth activities for staff and for self;
- Assist in the development of annual school and grant budgets;
- Serve as a spokesperson for and liaison between the school and stakeholders;
- Promote successful school activities and accomplishments;
- Support a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment and a school culture that reflects school values of community, accountability, professionalism, and success among students and staff by modeling and ensuring compliance with school policies and expectations;
- Adhere to all board policies and administrative guidelines;
- Directs, coordinates, and/or evaluates Assistant Principals, Certified Staff, and Support staff assigned to the building;
- Performs all other duties as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent, Director of Learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in educational leadership and/or school administration;
- Possesses or demonstrates the ability to obtain an Indiana Administrators License;
- 3 years’ experience in a school leadership position;
- 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferred.
