Title: Food Service Manager
Status: Full-time/Part Year
Report to: Operations Director
Supervises: Site Cooks

Oversees the food service and participates in nutrition portion of the SHRAI operations as it relates to meal service. Ensures that food served to children meets all USDA, Head Start, and State Day Care guidelines, pertaining to both nutrition and sanitation. Trains and acts as mentor for site cooks. Maintains adequate inventory of all food, paper, and cleaning supplies for the program. Fills in as an occasional substitute in the kitchen as needed, in addition to, helping with daily operation needs.

- Maintains all files, binders, and documents pertaining to CACFP
- Works with Executive Director in completing and submitting the annual CACFP contract.
- Participates in the interview and hiring process of program kitchen staff.
- Supervises site cooks and prepares their staff evaluations. Reviews and makes decisions with input from HR on personnel actions such as retention, promotion, disciplinary, or other related issues.
- Helps plan and schedule food service trainings/meetings and continuing education for site cooks during the school year to pursue continuing education. In addition to, providing annual CACFP trainings for staff meetings.
- Ensures all state and federal codes are being met related to food service and sanitation. Maintains current files of required CACFP checklists.
- Annually leads and participates in menu planning with Health Manager and Operations Director and ensures standard menu rotation is used at all sites.
- Compiles recipes for all menu items and ensures recipes are on-site for all cooks.
- Accurately compiles and reports all USDA information.
- Responsible for centralized ordering and distribution of all food, paper, and cleaning supplies for the program, including grocery store runs for items needed.
- Ensures all kitchens and equipment is cleaned on a regularly scheduled basis and equipment is in good operating condition.
- Attends all scheduled meetings as requested/directed, including On-Going Monitoring once a month and annual WI DPI CACFP trainings.
- Reports suspected cases of child abuse appropriately.
- Maintains confidentiality among staff and Head Start families.
- Maintains professional demeanor at all times.
- Maintains a high-quality nutrition program that meets or exceeds all Head Start Standards.
- Reviews and approves “Food Request Form for Events” from Teachers for cooking in the Head Start classrooms policy and Family Development staff for Head Start child and family events.
- Works with site cooks and teachers to plan and provide classroom cooking experiences, by planning and providing a monthly classroom nutrition activity following classroom curriculum for each HS classroom and EHS Socializations.
- Oversee occasional evening family events, includes preparation of food for event, serving, and clean up of events.

- High school diploma or GED. Courses and/or certification in Food Service Management preferred.
- Minimum age 21.
- Experience in the food preparation industry. Supervisory experience in food preparation preferred.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Head Start experience preferred.
- Basic courses in Food Service recommended. Obtain and maintain Wisconsin, ServSafe Manager and Handler Certifications.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills. Ability to keep accurate and time sensitive records.
- Ability to work independently, good time management skills.
- Must provide documentation of physical exam and TB test prior to employment.
- Drivers license, proof of auto insurance
