PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Perform maintenance activities for the overall operation of the Transportation Department. This position will run from May 2025 - August 2025 (may vary) working Monday – Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (hours may vary). This limited term employment opportunity has a pay rate of $20.00 per hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Duties include basic highway maintenance, cleaning up debris and trash along roadways, cutting brush and trees; mowing grass and weeds with hand or power mower; tarring cracks; pick and shovel work in digging; acts as a flag person for construction or repair crew. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and be in high school or is a High School graduate. Applicants must be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to Shed Supervisors, is indirectly supervised by Transportation Director and Maintenance Managers. Has frequent contact with other County employees, municipal employees, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is performed in a shed and outdoor settings, including but not limited to construction sites. Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds, but, must be capable of lifting 100 pounds. A combination of sitting and standing postures may be required, use of hands, ability to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required for this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to regularly work five eight-hour days and/or four ten-hour days and the ability to adapt to working non-standard work hours, including weekends, late evenings, early mornings and holidays.
- Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to unpleasant odors and non-toxic fumes. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to adverse temperature and/or humidity extremes.
- Must be able to operate construction equipment, trucks, tools and equipment.
- Risk of blood borne pathogen exposure is considered low.
