The Area Sales Manager (ASM) is responsible for driving the growth of Craft Massachusetts’ market share, sales, and distribution in the Central MA area, while managing team performance and controlling expenses. As a field leader, the ASM must demonstrate strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and excels at coaching, training, and developing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of Sales Representatives to maximize sales, distribution, and execution in the market.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers at all levels through consistent account visits.
- Foster positive relationships with supplier partners and champion the growth of our portfolio throughout the territory.
- Represent and promote the goodwill and reputation of Craft Massachusetts
- Execute company and supplier marketing strategies effectively across the territory.
- Collaborate with the core sales team to increase overall market share
- Monitor and grow within each assigned sales rep’s territory and across key segments.
- Set and achieve monthly business goals tied to volume, distribution, and execution.
- Provide sales route coverage and account support as needed.
- Assist with in-store promotions and activations.
- Train and onboard new sales representatives, including participation in team sales efforts and ride-alongs.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the beer industry and adhere to all legal regulations governing alcohol sales.
- Manage product inventory within the territory, ensuring optimal freshness and minimal waste.
- Oversee merchandising execution, including permanent and paper POS placement.
- Enforce product rotation standards and code date policy in all accounts.
- Address customer needs related to deliveries, product information, credit, and service concerns.
- Monitor accounts receivable and ensure compliance with company credit policies.
- Ensure excellent shelf presence by rotating stock, placing point-of-sale (POS) materials, and securing premium shelf and display space.
- Communicate account activity and market conditions to sales management and supplier partners as needed.
- Work with the sales team to open new accounts by presenting product lines and setting initial orders
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, Management, or a related field.
- 3–4 years of experience in the beer/alcohol industry, with a proven sales track record.
- 1–2 years of leadership or management experience, preferably in a field sales environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Certified Beer Server or equivalent industry certification preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and CRM/sales technology platforms.
- Proficient with Google suite platforms, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; active auto insurance required.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs (equivalent to one case of beer).
- Ability to safely move a 165 lb keg using a two-wheeled hand truck.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and reach to stock or retrieve products in retail and bar/restaurant environments.
