Who We Are
Shelburne Farms is an education nonprofit on a mission to inspire and cultivate learning for a sustainable future. Our vision is cultivating a healthy and just world rooted in stewardship and community through educational, farm-based experiences and programs. Our Farm Store is a part of our mission. It allows our visitors to experience our Farm products, discover other local farm-based goods, and learn more about our mission and campus offerings. Our home campus is a 1,400-acre working farm located on the traditional, unceded, and contemporary homelands of the Winooskik band of the Abenaki.

What We Do
  • Engage youth and people of all ages in learning experiences that inspire them to build just, diverse, resilient, caring communities.
  • Steward our working lands and heritage buildings as we embody values of place and community through caring for and sharing our natural, agricultural, cultural, and human resources.
  • Collaborate with educators and other local, national, and international partners to advance education for sustainability worldwide.

Who We’re Looking for
As the Assistant Housekeeping Manager, you share our deep commitment to the Farm’s mission and vision as you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment. You enjoy mentoring and learning from your staff to help them grow. This role is essential in helping to lead a team and maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the inn and cottages across the farm while providing exceptional service to our guests and visitors.

What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Management
  • Partner with the Housekeeping Manager and Inn Director to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of dedicated staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Lead by example and work side by side with your teams. This is a hands-on supervisory role and the best way to give in the moment feedback is to be working alongside the housekeeping staff.
  • Facilitate ongoing training, are clear with your directions, receptive and open to feedback, and are patient as your team learns the ropes.
  • Value team members’ differences and thrive when working with a diverse team. You are comfortable working with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds, experiences and skill levels.

Cleaning and Maintaining
  • Cleaning and care of all 2nd and 3rd floor bedrooms (no elevator or lift), bathrooms and public spaces.
  • Cleaning and care of all guest cottages and houses (single room and multi-room cottages).
  • Change bed linens, towels, and replenish guest amenities with sustainable options.
  • Assisting with the daily laundry and care of linens as needed.
  • Clean and maintain common areas within the historical Inn, ensuring preservation of its unique features.
  • Learning and following proper care of museum quality furnishings, special woodwork and floors, etc.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, and mopping using environmentally friendly methods.

Guest Interaction
  • Greet and assist guests, providing instructions and information about their room, the inn and farm while offering them additional resources with our guest service team.
  • Engage with guests if they’re curious to learn more about our programs, tours, activities, and the general farm if you have first hand experiences to share (you’ll learn a lot in orientation!).

Core Qualifications
  • Available to work weekends and holidays as we’re open 7 days a week from May - October.
  • Leadership experience in any capacity.
  • Strong attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
  • Welcome to all and comfortable working with individuals and groups of all backgrounds.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Available for a seasonally demanding work schedule.

  • Moving up and down 1 - 2 flights of stairs while carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Being active for extended periods of time and working in settings with limited air conditioned work environments depending on the location.
  • Moving over uneven terrain.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment.
