What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interpreter (Juvenile Court) position at Shelby County Government?
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of experience in a clerical capacity; AND
2. High school diploma or possess GED.
3. Experience in English/Spanish oral interpretation in simultaneous and consecutive modes and sight translation of English/Spanish documents highly preferred.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides oral Spanish interpretation in simultaneous and consecutive modes during complex proceedings, hearings, interviews, and other court-related events.
2. Provides sight translation of English or Spanish documents as required during proceedings, hearings, interviews, and other court-related events.
3. Provides written translation of documents and court correspondence, including existing court forms and other court-related material as assigned.
4. Minimizes customer wait time; streamlines work processes; and works cooperatively to provide quality, seamless services to internal and external customers and meet the court’s operational needs.
5. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSA’s
1. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment; skilled at operating office equipment.
2. Knowledge of operational responsibilities required for a judicial environment
3. Ability to become proficient in Microsoft 365 and Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
4. Ability to communicate with staff and the public with courtesy and tact.
5. Ability to be flexible and ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
6. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Special Requirements
1. Must be credentialed by the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts as a certified Spanish/English interpreter.
2. Must abide by the Rules of Ethics for Spoken Foreign Language Interpreters in Tennessee Courts.
3. Must complete all continuing education requirements necessary to renew and maintain certification.
