What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Coordinator - COMMUNITY SAFETY (Health Services) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary
This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.
This position works under the direction of the Manager of Health and Wellness to improve health outcomes in Shelby County. Responsible for working collaboratively across agencies and community groups to drive improvement in health outcomes and reduction in health inequities.
Grade: 51 Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1. Three (3) years of experience in the professional administrative capacity of a health services program; and
2. Bachelor"s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health administration, health promotion, health education, or related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Builds structured and collaborative partnerships to drive change in community health outcomes.
2. Facilitates comprehensive engagement and support from community stakeholders, such as residents, schools, universities, neighborhood associations, professional organizations, churches, and community based agencies, to improve population health; for example, violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, mental health and well-being, etc.
3. Works with community organizations to develop and maintain a data tracking process for monitoring and measuring effectiveness of local initiatives.
4. Identifies, plans, and implements policy, systems, and environmental changes within populations.
5. Assists in the development of comprehensive plans to address public health issues, such as opioid use disorder, youth violence, domestic violence, mental health, etc.
6. Identifies evidence-based interventions that use appropriate theories of change models and implements interventions that reach whole populations.
7. Sets priorities for interventions based on needs assessment data, assists in the evaluation and re-design of interventions to improve health outcomes.
8. Identifies metrics to guide, focus, and assess the impact of prevention initiatives, including those targeted at improving the social determinants of health and enhancing equity.
9. Provides technical assistance to elected officials, policy makers, agencies, and community organizations on evidence-based practice, program development and program evaluation.
10. Assists with maintaining a social media presence for the Shelby County Health Department.
11. Plans community events and messaging campaigns to promote healthy living.
12. Performs other related duties as required or directed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KSAs - 1. Knowledge of principles and theories of public health practice.
2. Knowledge of community resources including the organization of community health care systems and the local public health system.
3. Advanced computer skills including proficient in current social media platforms (e.g., Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc.).
4. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
5. Ability to solve problems and make decisions among competing priorities.
6. Ability to facilitate change (behavioral and/or cultural) in organizations, communities and/or individuals.
7. Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently.
8. Ability to work well with others including a diverse disciplines and stakeholders.
9. Ability to prepare detailed reports and work plans
10. Ability to interpret epidemiological data.
11. Adheres to professional code of conduct. Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver"s license or secure one by date of employment.
2. Must have access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
3. Work will require attendance at meetings and activities on weekends and/or after regular work hours.
