Community Education and Training Advocate -

The Shelter for Abused Women & Children

Location : Naples

Reports to : Naples Outreach Manager

Employment Type : Fulltime, Non- Exempt (Hourly)

Direct Reports : N / A

Salary : Determined based on experience, local wages, and nonprofit industry rates.

This is a fully in-person position with no opportunities for remote work.

The Impact of This Position : Plays a crucial role in raising awareness about domestic violence, promoting prevention, and fostering community understanding. By educating the public and training professionalssuch as healthcare workers, educators, and law enforcementthe advocate equips individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to identify and respond to abuse effectively. This role also strengthens community partnerships, advocates for systemic change, and amplifies the voices of survivors, creating a safer and more supportive environment for those impacted by domestic violence.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in the human services field, education, and / or equivalent experience preferred

Certifications and Training

  • Completion of First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Successful completion of The Shelters Core Competency training upon hire.

  • Must pass state and federal background checks, provide satisfactory references, and complete a drug screening
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Demonstrated track record of effectively delivering presentations.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, across all communication channels
  • Professional proficiency in English; bilingual in Spanish or Creole preferred.
  • Savvy with all presentation platforms including PowerPoint, Prezi, and Canva
  • Essential Functions

  • Deliver presentations to community partners, businesses, and organizations in Naples and Immokalee to raise awareness about domestic violence and human trafficking.
  • Facilitate training series at local universities and Collier County Jails.
  • Implement a community training plan in the areas of health care, business, education, criminal justice, law enforcement, civil courts, and any other community groups who have regular interaction with victims of domestic violence
  • Maintain all presentation and training documents; ensuring uniformity and communication guidelines are met.
  • Partner with Shelters Primary Prevention Supervisor to planning events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
  • Properly document all attendance, location, and observation data in The Shelters aggregate data system.
  • Provide support and advocacy to survivors as needed.
