Position: Advocacy Support Coordinator
Position Status: Currently funded at 1.0 FTE, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Programs Director in collaboration with the Executive Director

Founded in 1979, Shelter From the Storm provides services to those who have been impacted by interpersonal violence in Union County, Oregon, and works to break the cycle of intimate partner abuse and violence through advocacy, education, and awareness.
Summary
The Advocate Initiated Response (AIR) Advocate is responsible for making the first contact with a victim of domestic violence. When the Advocate Initiated Response is activated by a local law enforcement agency (LEA), the AIR Advocate makes contact with the victim after being notified by law enforcement and informs the victim of Shelter from the Storm's services, their rights, provides emotional support, community referrals, and will determine if emergency shelter is needed. The AIR Advocate is also responsible for direct client services, personnel and teamwork duties. This position works directly with survivors providing crisis intervention and follow-up advocacy as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Make initial contact with a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking when AIR is initiated by LEA.
- Inform victim of SFS services and provide emotional support, community referrals, and emergency shelter as needed.
- Follow up with victim as needed.
- Act as a liaison between law enforcement and staff, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Programs Director.
- Maintains client and staff confidentiality.
- Assists the Executive Director documenting program activity as needed.
- Works diligently with the Programs director to develop and maintain the AIR program with community partners.
- Attends and represents SFS at meetings with key stakeholders, partner organizations, community groups, and special events along with the Programs Director or Executive Director as appropriate.
- Facilitate the maintenance of a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking - along with their children.
- Works with Programs Director and Executive Director to bring in regular and appropriate trainings with and for LEA partners.
- Provide direct services to victims and ensures client records are kept in accordance with agency standards.
- Works occasional weekends or evenings, and will be flexible to on call duties.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Programs Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform essential duties and responsibilities as listed above. In addition, the following candidate must be able to carry out the following: attention to detail, strong organization skills, utilize effective time management. Must possess the ability to work as an individual and as part of a team, handle multiple priorities, remain calm in stressful situations, and maintain confidentiality. The Sexual Assault Response Advocate must be able to work effectively in a nonprofit environment with frequent interruptions. Evening and weekend work may be required. Must be willing and able to travel.

Other Requirements
- Experience working with survivors preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance, and access to regular transportation required.
- Criminal background check required.
- Must comply with all SFS policies and safety regulations.
- State of Oregon training requirements may be completed concurrent with work.
- Agree, in writing, to maintain confidentiality of clients, staff, and SFS agency always.
