Assignment Overview:
The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will continue to support the recruitment, development, and management of the Shelter House Volunteer Program. Responsibilities include the recruitment, orientation, and training of new volunteers to perform a host of job responsibilities within the organization, including clerical, shelter support, and employment lab. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will refine the documentation and reporting process for the Drop-In Center, and assist with major fundraising events with the Development Team throughout the year.
Position Description:
The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will play a key role in strengthening Shelter House’s Volunteer Program by supporting the recruitment, orientation, training, and management of volunteers across various organizational functions, including clerical support, shelter operations, and the employment lab. This role will also focus on refining documentation and reporting processes for the Drop-In Center and will collaborate with the Development Team to assist with major fundraising events throughout the year.
Assignment Objectives:
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers to build capacity of the Volunteer Program to assist in the delivery of daily outreach services to Shelter House clients.
- Recruit and train volunteers to build capacity in the intake/coordinated entry process to streamline access to shelter and support services for people experiencing homelessness.
- Develop ongoing capacity in the Development Department by recruiting individuals and groups to promote the execution of fundraising events. There are several annual events that require dozens of volunteers to execute.
- Coordinate VISTA Days of Service, designated VISTA events, and other service projects among the Shelter House VISTA team, volunteers, staff, and clients.
- Establish appropriate program goals/targets and work with Shelter House staff and volunteers to measure, access, and alter service delivery (as needed) to reach outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Volunteer recruitment.

- Volunteer training in the areas of in-kind donation intake, clerical, shelter support, and employment lab.
- Assist the Development Team with major fundraising events throughout the year.

Requirements
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Windows-based computer environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, or related software.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, prioritize multiple tasks, and be flexible in job duties and schedule.
- Be 18 years of age or older (no upper age limit)
- Hold one of the following citizenship pr legal residency statuses: US Citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e., Green Card Status), and persons legally residing within a state. Examples of persons legally residing within a state may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
