What are the responsibilities and job description for the Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Outreach position at Shelter House?
Shelter House is a non-profit agency serving domestic violence survivors in Okaloosa and Walton counties. Domestic and sexual violence cross all age, racial, ethnic, nation-orientation, sexual, gender preference, spiritual and socioeconomic boundaries.

Experience working with marginalized populations is preferred, but not required.
The Victim Advocate is responsible for responding to crisis calls on the hotline and providing support, advocacy, and case management services to women, children and men in the confidential shelter; this position reports to the Residential Manager. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for providing services to victims of domestic violence using the empowerment model.
- Assess hotline/ crisis calls.
- Offer a safety plan to all participants.
- Screen, admit and orient new residents to emergency shelter.
- Provide referrals to outside agencies to ensure that participants receive comprehensive services from the community.
- Advocate for participants' needs and victim's rights in all settings as requested or necessary.
- Coordinate participant needs with other staff as necessary.
- Accountable for documenting information as required per agency policy.
- Responsible for participating in and completing all required opportunities for continuing education.
- Other duties as assigned.
Shelter House offers paid holidays, 15 days of paid time off, health benefits and opportunities for continuing education and training. This position is full-time, hourly and non-exempt.
