Sheltered, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization servicing the homeless population in Springfield in Clark County Ohio. Sheltered, Inc is seeking an innovative and dynamic Executive Director to lead the legacy organization that operates two shelters that provide safety, social support, case management services, and more to help those in need regain stable housing. The Executive Director will serve as the face of the organization and will work closely in collaboration with other local entities as the leading advocates for homeless members of the community. Non-profit and fundraising experience is beneficial and a passionate voice for those most in need is highly desirable.
Sheltered, Inc offers a salary of $80,000, a stipend for health insurance and 3 weeks of paid vacation.
Functions and Responsibilities:
Responsible for public relations and promotions, fundraising, personnel management, and fiscal general management for 501(c)(3) homeless shelter operation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Public Relations and Promotion - Responsible for all community relations
- Represents Sheltered, Inc in all public meetings and groups with which Sheltered, Inc is affiliated; Region 15, EFSB Local Board, Direct Service Providers etc.
- Develops and maintains sound working relationships with key individuals within city and county government and those community agencies and organizations which a) may be a source of client referrals, b) provide services which are of potential value to Sheltered, Inc’s clients c) may be a source of funding or support
- Develops effective publicity materials and press releases to keep the work of Sheltered, Inc visible in the community
Fundraising - Responsible for working with the Board of Trustees to raise income for Sheltered, Inc
- Public and private grants: Seek grant providers, oversee the preparation of complete and accurate proposals, make personal presentations as required or arrange for Board of Trustees and/or Staff to make the presentations. Aggressively follow up on applications until resolution and appropriately acknowledge in writing grant provider decisions
- Individual, corporate and church donations: make personal contacts, direct the Board in making personal contact, plan campaigns, prepare all correspondence and publicity materials for soliciting one time and repeat donations. Direct staff to acknowledge donations in a timely manner
- Lead the organization with Board of Trustees support to become Medicaid certified to generate organizational revenue
Personnel Management
- Staff the organization by working with the management team on a daily basis. Give final approval of the hiring, managing and dismissal of employees as required. Review regular performance reviews and approve pay and benefit guidelines within the constraints of the annual budget and/or spending authorization by the Board of Trustees
- Review time sheets, payroll and withholding schedules prepared by Program Managers
Board Liaison
- Responsible for accurate, regular and timely communication with the Board of Trustees
- Report monthly in regards to all aspects of Sheltered, Inc day-to-day operations to include expense/income/budget status, census statistics and personnel matters
- Direct the Board of Trustees, it’s committees and individuals as to the work required of them in the continued operation, future planning, promotions and stabilization of Sheltered, Inc
- Carry out all directives from the Board of Trustees in a timely manner
General Management – Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operation of Sheltered, Inc
- Work with outside Accounting Firm and Fiscal Manager to prepare proposed income and expense budgets and present them to the Board of Trustees for approval
- Work directly with the Board Treasurer to report monthly on the status against the current budget; forecast the status for the balance of the year and advise of necessary corrections
- Work with the Fiscal Manager to ensure the payment of all obligations are made in a timely manner and there is effective utilization of financial resources
- Provide the “authorizing signature” for all official contracts, obligations, etc. with the approval of the Board of Trustees
- Speak to and work with community churches to recruit and develop new volunteer base
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Trustees
Required Skills & Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and experience in grant writing, grant management, fundraising, publicity and public relations. Has the ability to manage employees and work well with volunteers. Has a working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, budgeting and forecasting. Has working experience in either a non-profit business or human services field.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and/or equal number of years’ experience in Business Management or Human Services
