Job Function:
The Director of Counseling provides oversight of non-residential programs, community advocacy, and systems change efforts for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault according to industry best standards, quality assurance, and the Agency Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensures non-residential program and service delivery is consistent with mission and guiding principles including empowerment, intersectionality, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed; provides oversight of Shelterhouse’s non-residential direct service programs including counseling, and community response.
2. Employs a deep understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and creates program standards, protocols, and guidelines that reflect these dynamics and guiding principles of the agency.
3. Participates in coordination and writing of state and federal grant proposals; assists in researching grants and submitting grant proposals in coordination with the Executive Director.
4. Assists in the management of state and federal grants for non-residential services and ensures completion of grant deliverables; prepares narrative and other reports to funders with the Executive Director and other staff, as needed; assists with coordination of Agency Quality Assurance efforts.
5. Measures, analyzes, and acts on client outcomes for Agency programs.
6. Provides oversight of Shelterhouse’s systems change efforts by developing community partnerships to enhance systems response to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and increase offender accountability; partners include (but not limited to) office of prosecuting attorney, city police, and sheriff’s offices.
7. Coordinates Shelterhouse’s prevention and education efforts; supports Agency outreach efforts in coordination with the Director of Fund Development.
8. Provides oversight of Shelterhouse’s participation of designated members for Midland and Gladwin counties domestic and sexual violence coordinating councils and relevant committees.
9. Provides support to the Executive Director concerning non-residential program and community advocacy strategic goal development, implementation, and reporting.
10. Identifies and evaluates future funding needs and sources in cooperation with Executive Director and Director of Fund Development.
11. Develops and coaches team members; conducts performance reviews in accordance with Agency procedures.
12. Serves as member of Leadership Team; understands the mission of the agency and helps implement the vision of the Executive Director. 1. Represents Shelterhouse as a voice for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors through active engagement with community partners and groups through membership, presentations, training, and tours.
2. Provides advocacy, counseling, education, and support to clients and their families, as needed.
3. Acts as liaison and/or advocate with legal, social, welfare, law enforcement, and medical agencies on behalf of non-residential clients, as needed.
4. Maintains confidential, accurate, and timely client records and program documentation.
5. Supervises Counseling Advocates, Part-Time Therapist, and interns (as required).
6. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work, current full licensure in the State of Michigan, and at least five (5) years experience as a licensed practitioner providing individual and group therapy. Experience working with individuals, families, and groups and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and/or trauma in a direct service capacity, community organizing, systems, and working with people in crisis. Experience providing supervision to staff, willingness to work a flexible schedule (at least one evening until 8:00PM), valid driver’s license, proof of valid/current auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Must pass pre-employment and annual screenings and background checks. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications: CurrentLPC licensure in the state of Michigan.
