What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Crisis Response Advocate position at Shelterhouse?
Job Function:
The Overnight Crisis Response Advocate provides support and assistance to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their families. This includes crisis intervention, helpline assistance, resource linkage, and advocacy on clients’ behalf with community partners. The primary work shifts are overnights, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of the Overnight Crisis Response Advocate’s schedule and role, this position does not serve on-call.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Staffs Agency Helpline and responds to crisis calls.
2. Provides oversight for nightly residential operations.
3. Provides crisis intervention and individual support.
4. Maintains confidential, accurate, and timely client records and documentation.
5. Links clients and/or advocate with legal, social, welfare, police, and medical agencies.
6. Educates clients on dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, batterer tactics, red flags, and healthy relationships.
7. Provides intake services for clients in crisis.
8. Participates in team meetings in a positive and supportive manner.
9. Completes cleaning and organizational tasks assigned during scheduled shift.
10. Follows Agency policies and procedures as well as funder/grant requirements.
11. Participates in trainings, as required.
12. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to Perform the Job:

· Ability to learn about domestic violence, dating violence, and sexual assault dynamics
· Ability to lift more than 30 pounds

· Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and volunteers
· Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with the community through involvement in community organizations
· Competency to maintain professional and technical knowledge attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies
· Ability to contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks, as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires two years of college in a human services field or two years of experience working in a related field. Basic skills in Microsoft Word/Office. This position also requires a valid driver’s license, proof of valid/current auto insurance, clean driving record, and reliable transportation if driving personal or Agency vehicle for any Shelterhouse related purpose. Must pass mandatory background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals in crisis; knowledge of dynamics of and experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence; effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
