Job Description:
The Supportive Housing Advocate plays a crucial role in assisting individuals and families accepted into Shelterhouse’s housing program. This position involves providing comprehensive support and advocacy to help clients navigate challenges and achieve stability.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides advocacy for clients who are in the supportive housing program.
2. Offer crisis intervention services to clients in need, including emotional support and practical assistance.
3. Manage the crisis desk as necessary, ensuring timely and effective response to urgent situations.
4. Acts as liaison and/or advocate with legal, social, welfare, housing, police, and medical agencies.
5. Regularly travel to conduct home visits and provide follow-ups with clients to monitor progress and provide ongoing support as needed. Self-sufficiency is the main goal to obtain.
6. Assist with in-coming donations, this includes accepting, organizing and stocking donation storage rooms.
7. Educates clients on dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, batterer tactics, red flags and healthy relationships.
8. Maintains confidential, accurate, and timely client records and documentation.
9. Participates in team meetings in a positive and supportive manner.
10. Serve on-call as backup for residential programs.
11. Follows Agency policies and procedures as well as funder/grant requirements.
12. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field or two years of experience working in the field. Basic skills in Microsoft Word/Office. This position also requires a valid driver’s license, proof of valid/current auto insurance, clean driving record, and reliable transportation if driving personal or Agency vehicle for any Shelterhouse related purpose. Must pass mandatory background checks. Must be willing to be flexible with work schedule as client and agency needs change.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of dynamics of domestic and sexual violence; experience working with individuals in crisis, particularly survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
