About the Role
Shepherd University's Residence Life department is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Area Coordinator. This live-in role requires strong leadership and communication skills to effectively supervise, train, and evaluate undergraduate Resident Assistant (RA) staff members.
As an Area Coordinator, you will lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community engagement programs and interactions for residents which foster an inclusive community and promote persistence. You will practice solid administrative skills to manage multiple demands related to housing assignments, building management, programming, purchasing, budgets, and other daily tasks. You will assume responsibility for the daily operations and management of designated residence halls such as submitting work orders, assessing building and room conditions, conducting health and safety inspections, and billing if appropriate.
Prior experience in a leadership role, preferably in a college setting, is essential. A Bachelor's degree and commitment to supporting resident success and fostering inclusive communities based on mutual respect are required. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are also necessary.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field. Prior experience in Residence Life or Housing operation, crisis management, conflict resolution, and/or emergency response, community engagement, activity planning, or similar is also beneficial. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Residence Life and serves as a member of the Campus Services division and partners with the Student Affairs division.
This role requires a 12-month commitment and involves serving in an on-call/on-duty rotation to provide support for approximately 800 residential students living in four communities.
