The EPS Technical Manager Manages the industrial and construction applications team within our EPS Polymers business. The successful candidate for this position will have experience in waterborne latex and a successful record of implementing technical strategies and hands on relationship building. Responsibilities include developing project objectives that involve working with new or complex technology and applications and customer presentations. This position reports to the R&D Technical Director.
- Supervises staff to include hiring, training, evaluating performance, providing compensation recommendations, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Manages professional and technical research and development personnel who analyze, test, and develop new or updated formulas. Bench work required as necessary to execute on technical strategy and successfully close accounts.
- Presents technology, product, and application information to internal and external customer
- Strategic Planning – Create a technical strategy with the business manager by identifying market segments where technology differentiation is of value, defining technology needs to deliver value add, and clearly articulating the plan to the technical teams to align objectives
- Develops project objectives, which includes proposed budgets, timelines, materials, personnel, determining project feasibility, and other project requirements, and receives management approval; projects are typically for a smaller business group or a division of a larger group.
- Reviews and evaluates project status, outcomes, and direction to ensure conformity with project objectives determines corrective action and implements changes; has considerable latitude within project objectives.
- Serves as a member of project and business teams and assists with developing division or group sales, production, research, and related objectives.
- Oversees and/or serves and the primary contact and responds to highly technical and complex questions and concerns from customers, research professionals, quality control, and other internal and external parties regarding development and related programs and services.
- Reads and interprets patents, examines new product concepts and technology, and determines how to meet customer needs and market demands.
- Assists with developing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with technical principles and practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations; monitors compliance with these areas.
- Identify technology voids/market needs within the segments by substrate evaluation
- Select and prioritize segments by substrate including a thorough technology plan on how EPS will get there in a timely fashion
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- 8 Years of Industry Experience as a Chemist including 3 years of Technical Project Management.
- Experience supervising and evaluating employees
- Experience administering technology programs
- Experience applying business administration principles and practices
- Experience applying project management principles and practices
- Experience developing and monitoring project budgets
- Experience interpreting and applying department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Experience applying comprehensive application methods and procedures
- Experience interpreting data and developing reports
- Experience working with internal and external customers
- Experience communicating technical information
- Experience reading and interpreting patents
- Experience applying commercialization principles and practices
- PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications
- Experience communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction
- Master’s or PhD
Travel Requirements: Up to 20%
