The Accounting Manager role oversees the accounting function of Shiel Sexton’s business unit, Engineered Facades (EF).
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shiel Sexton Co., Inc., Engineered Facades installs building envelopes on projects across North America. The Accounting Manager for this business unit is responsible for the efficient day-to-day running of all EF’s accounting processes. Additionally, this manager produces reporting and analysis used by the parent company for corporate financials, used by senior management for analysis and planning purposes, as well as used in the completion of an annual audit performed by third-party auditor.
The individual occupying this role must have strong communication skills and work well with all employees, across all business units – from senior executives to new field employees – as well as coordinate seamlessly with outside auditors. This role works especially closely with EF’s project managers toward the monthly completion of cost reports on all EF projects, and works closely with the corporate accounting office in all other aspects of managing EF’s accounting processes.
Qualifications
The Accounting Manager at EF has an undergraduate degree in accounting, along with 5-7 years of experience in construction accounting, as well as management experience. The successful candidate is also proficient in Microsoft Office and Viewpoint Vista.

Responsibilities
Day-to-Day
- Coordinates with Engineered Facades Precon team to compile project set up information, including establishing a schedule of values for each project; then coordinates with Cost Engineering for project setup in ERP
- Manages the AP and AR functions of Engineered Facades, including the accurate coding, entry, and posting of all AP invoices to EF projects, ensures subcontract and lien waiver compliance of subcontractors contracted with EF, and manages the creation and posting of all project-specific monthly AR billings
- Regularly reviews AP and AR agings to ensure timely payments are received and remitted
- Oversees all payroll entry to corporate payroll system, as well as reviews all expense report submissions from EF employees, for processing of both at corporate level
- Oversees all overhead expensing, actively ensuring accurate coding and adherence to annual overhead budget
- Understands the cost reporting function that captures current and projected activity for all EF projects in process, and coordinates with project teams to ensure the accurate and timely submission of cost reports for rollup into corporate financials
- Reviews overhead budget monthly for variances; provides explanations for significant variances
- Manages monthly review of divisional cash forecasts, project over- and under-billings, and provides explanations of any significant changes or timing shifts in project-specific revenues and gross profit
- Responsible for monthly general ledger management and reconciliations: entries for prepaids, amortization and depreciation, accruals and reversals
- Collects all sales and use tax information to accurately and timely file sales and use tax remittances to various states and localities on monthly and quarterly reporting basis
- Assist with producing information for auditors’ use in annual corporate audit
- Coordinate with auditors on additional tax and audit questions throughout year
- Primary point-of-contact for Engineered Facades employees with accounting questions
- Ad hoc data analysis and reporting to senior management
- Completes annual lease accounting calculations and review for annual audit reporting
- Lead in generating EF’s annual overhead budget and strategic planning, coordinating with senior management and all departments of EF to ensure budget and planning is accurate and comprehensive
- Coordinate with corporate Accounting & IT departments to track EF fixed assets, including the tracking of vehicle fleet and coordinating with IT department to track all IT assets
- Understand, manage, and assist with maintaining all accounting software (currently UKG, Vista)
- Responsible for managing one to two staff-level accountants
- Integral to the planning, design, and implementation of new or expanded lines of business that are a part of the Engineered Facades business unit
