Role Description
We are seeking an energetic and experienced Area Manager to further support our transportation expansion. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations and relations for all local primary transportation services in and around the Fort Worth, TX market. Duties and responsibilities will follow: Dedicated freight runs, pick-up and drop off of packages to our final mile carrier partners, while supporting internal operations around receiving and stowing. ShipBob’s goal is to provide a cost-effective transportation solution that maximizes driver / trailer utilization, enhances on-time pickup/deliveries, while exceeding our overarching productivity and merchant expectations. As a vital member of our team, you'll be responsible for interacting with delivery drivers and local dispatch (both freight and final mile), sales, transportation management, and multiple shift warehouse personnel.
What You’ll Do
Partner with other Area Managers to balance labor ensuring we are operating an efficient shift while meeting all goals. Monitor and manage daily delivery schedules, optimize routes, and address any disruptions or delays. Work with a network of local and national carriers to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation solutions. Responsible for ensuring teams are properly trained on processes and procedures, understand metrics and performance goals, and that their needs are addressed so they can best perform in their roles. Assign tasks, provide coaching and accountability, and motivate team towards achieving performance goals. Actively foster employee engagement onsite by participating in activities, events, and programs that contribute to workplace culture, a positive work environment and employee wellbeing. Enforce all safety regulations and procedures within the transportation area to ensure a smooth and safe workflow. Oversee yard operations, including tracking inbound (IB) and outbound (OB) trailers to maintain organized logistics. What You’ll Do
- In support of transportation management, monitor forecasted volumes to ensure sufficient daily carrier pick-up / drop off capacity.
- Leverage dedicated freight capacity, route and manage local final mile direct inject runs.
- Ensure all carrier pick-ups from the West Coast ShipBob Sort Center and drop-offs at local final mile carrier sort centers meet critical injection times so that packages make sort as expected.
- Report on time pick-up and/or on time drop offs relative to carrier acceptance scans to track performance and make adjustments to route and/or carrier scheduled pick-up times when needed.
- Escalate carrier performance issues to Carrier Managers.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Support all safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment for all associates.
- Comply with all food safety and compliance policies/regulations.
- Work closely with departments such as receiving, shipping, and warehouse management to coordinate logistics and address concerns.
- Review and approve associate timecards daily.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- 1 years of people management and operational leadership experience within a high-volume 3PL fulfillment environment. Preferred experience in ecommerce, retail, and manufacturing industries.
- 2-3 years’ broad experience in Transportation, experience with final mile carriers and routing.
- Knowledge of proper loading techniques; cubic measurement and space utilization techniques; forms, terminology, and information.
- Ability to manage performance, deliver feedback, train and develop talent for professional growth.
- Solid computer skills and have a working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerBI and TMS systems.
- Understanding of DOT and TDR Regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and experience tracking and achieving KPIs.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Hard working with a focus on learning, detail oriented, and passionate about helping small businesses compete online.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders and carrier partners.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts and non-traditional hours as needed to support business operations.
