Location: Lapeer, MI

As an EHS Specialist, you will be an integral part of ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, while fostering a culture of safety across the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role in safety programs and make tangible improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion Safety: Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs that promote a Zero Injury Culture.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Risk Management: Conduct site inspections to identify and mitigate physical hazards and safety risks.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead accident investigations and collaborate with external agencies to provide insights for corrective actions.
  • Emergency Response: Assist with directing the Emergency Response Team, providing tactical oversight during emergencies and drills.
  • Program Oversight: Oversee specific safety programs such as lockout/tagout, mobile equipment, and medical surveillance.
  • Training & Awareness: Provide clear and effective training on safety policies, hazards, and emergency procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support environmental initiatives, audits, and the implementation of ISO standards like 14001 and future 45001.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience: Ideally 2-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead safety training and provide recommendations.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with regulatory compliance, ergonomics, and safety engineering principles.
  • Proactive Attitude: Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Tools: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support contractor safety programs.
  • Serve as a key member of the Emergency Response Team and Safety Committee.
  • Participate in the Environmental Management System and audits.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned to further enhance the safety culture.

Environmental Exposures:

  • Exposure to noise from heavy machinery (plant environment).
  • Potential exposure to managed wastes and outdoor conditions.
