Overview
The Accountant role at Shockley Financial serves as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring exceptional service while managing their day-to-day accounting needs. This role involves categorizing transactions, receiving bills and processing accounts payable, matching payments to invoices, processing payroll, reconciling sales taxes, preparing financial statements, and onboarding new clients by organizing and cleaning up their books. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and experienced in accounting or bookkeeping, with a strong background in bank reconciliations, payroll, and cloud accounting software like QuickBooks Online or Xero. We are a hybrid environment with 3 days a week at our Blowing Rock office and 2 days work-from-home. This role is part-time paid hourly and hours will range from 15 hours a week to 25 hours a week depending on the workload that particular week. The hours can be flexible day-to-day as long as job responsibilities are met.
What your day will look like:
- Manage daily accounting tasks, including transaction categorization, processing AP, receiving payments, payroll processing, and sales tax filing and reconciliation.
- Act as secondary contact for clients, answering questions and providing guidance on accounting apps.
- Prepare preliminary financial statements from cloud accounting software to be reviewed
- Support onboarding for new clients by organizing records and cleaning up books.
- Ensure high-quality, timely service for your assigned clients, maintaining accountability for all related tasks.
What you need to succeed in this role:
- You can deliver spectacular customer service and you have experience in a customer-facing role
- You are exceptionally detail-oriented and organized
- You have an educational background in accounting or bookkeeping
- You have at least 4 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
- You are tech-savvy
- You can manage your work in a fast-paced environment
- You are a pro at bank reconciliations and organizing messy books
- You have handled reconciling sales taxes and filing the corresponding reports
- You can process bills for accounts payable including inventory items and credit memos
- You can apply payments received from customers to invoices
- You have experience processing payroll
- You have experience using cloud accounting software (QBO, Xero, etc.)
- You have experience paying suppliers
- You are a QuickBooks Pro Advisor, or will seek certification in the first 90 days
