Junior Accountant – Human Resources/Payroll-Benefits

Overview:
The Junior Accountant in HR/Payroll will complete the various tasks listed below. Assisting the Payroll Specialist and Group Leader, the Junior is required to assist in the timely and accurate completion of their assigned payroll processing tasks. The Junior must continually look for ways to improve the overall efficiency and work flow of the department and to communicate these improvements to the HR Manager.
Specific Duties:
- Process weekly personnel changes and updates required for new hires, transfers, terminations, etc. prior to time and attendance transmission from stores.
- Review and make appropriate changes to time and attendance edits and audits. Update and monitor store associates’ sick, personal and vacation record. Accurate and timely completion of weekly payroll processing, including all required journal entries, check printing and distribution.
- Process weekly payroll through investigation and documentation of all adjustments to the satisfactory review and approval of the Human Resources Manager.
- Process and reconcile all weekly, monthly, quarterly and year end payroll taxes for Ronetco and its affiliated companies, including the coordination and timely payment of tax liabilities. This includes the coordination, verification and accuracy of processing year end W-2’s for all companies.
- Responsible to ensure the processing and dissemination of all weekly, monthly and quarterly payroll labor reports.
- Working with the payroll specialist, you will ensure that all end of payroll quarter processing is performed accurately and on time. This includes reviewing and finalizing the end of quarter checklist, checking that all end of quarter reports are printed and filed.
- Effectively communicate and interact with all store management personnel, operational and corporate supervisors and Executives, with respect to all matters related to the Payroll/Benefits area.
- Will assist the payroll specialist in the planning, completion, and analysis of all special payroll runs which include sick bonus (1262, 464), vacation payout, Christmas bonus and Incentive Compensation.
- Update and/or create policies and procedures where necessary.
- Continually update your computer knowledge by attending classes, seminars and computer based training methods.
- Work with the HR Manager in the processing of 401-k payouts, loans, hardship withdrawals, end of year census, new enrollments, percentage changes, all 401-k test compliance’s, Summary plan Description mailing, and all other activities that are associated with 401-k.
- Work with the HR Manager in the annual completion of the pension census report, mailing and filing of annual pension statements, and processing of request for pension play payouts.
- Perform miscellaneous staff duties and tasks as directed by the department supervisor.
Junior Accountant – Payroll
Requirements:
- A.A. Degree or equivalent in order to perform the above mentioned functions accurately.
- Word, Excel and general PC skills required.
- Familiarity and a good working knowledge of the payroll system and its various reporting functions.
- Written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with the department supervisor, staff associates and company management.
- Ability to meet deadlines on a timely basis.
- An understanding and sensitivity to the retail environment.
