About ShoreCorps/AmeriCorps:
ShoreCorps is a State AmeriCorps program, funded in part by the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism. AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors engaging adults in public service work with a goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community." Members commit to full-time or part-time positions offered by a network of nonprofit community organizations and public agencies, to fulfill assignments in the fields of education, public safety, health care, and environmental protection. The program is often seen as a domestic Peace Corps. It employs more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year.
Position Description:
The Boys & Girls Club of Salisbury is seeking a Half-Time AmeriCorps member to serve as a Youth Development Coordinator for the 2025-2026 service year.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We do this by providing an afterschool program for members ages 6-18 that provides them with opportunities to grow through our various programming.
As a Youth Development Coordinator, you will plan, organize, and implement programs and activities that allow members to feel empowered to making healthy decisions that support our priority outcome areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character, and citizenship.
Member Responsibilities:
- Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development.
- Take all precautionary measures with regards to COVID-19 guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all kids and members.
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly club staff meetings and strive to work as a team.
- Assist with upkeep of club cleanliness and appearance.
- Understand and articulate the value of Boy & Girls Clubs and serve as an advocate for youth and the field of youth development.
Requirements for applicants include the following:
- Have a strong interest in serving the community
- Be able to relate to diverse populations
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Able to provide copy of either high school diploma, GED, or college transcript
- Have reliable transportation
- Be available to attend the free, AmeriCorps class at SU alternate Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal History Check, which includes FBI fingerprinting
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien
- Applicants DO NOT need to be college students, anyone from the community who fits the above requirements may participate.
- Per Boys & Girls Club, CPR and First Aid Certifications are preferred for this position (training provided for those who do not have them)

- 8 tuition-free credits at Salisbury University for completion of training course

Club hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. so hours will be served within that timeframe.
Member will begin on or after August 15th, 2025 and must complete 900 hours by August 14th, 2026.
This position is offered through a partnership with ShoreCorps, the AmeriCorps program at Salisbury University. It is contingent upon federal funding and approval of the AmeriCorps office.
