Health Occupations, Physical Education and Business (HOPE) is a vital academic division at Shoreline Community College. HOPE offers degrees and certifications in Health Information Technology, Medical Coding & Reimbursement, Dental Hygiene, Medical Lab Technology, and Nursing. Health Informatics & Information Management (HIIM), a fully online program, offers degrees and certificates accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) or through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Typical duties include the following:
- Teaching a variety of online HIIM courses in the HIIM Program
- Expertise in health data analysis and Power BI as well as revenue cycle management and integrity
- Interacting with students in weekly discussions
- Responding to student questions in a timely manner
- Developing curriculum as needed including learning activities, exams, and recorded lectures.
- Creating and updating HIIM courses on an ongoing basis based on industry standards and best practices
- Master’s degree in Health Information Management or Health Informatics or related discipline from an accredited institution
- AHIMA credentials such as RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P
- At least five years of HIIM industry experience, preferably in a leadership role
- At least two years of experience teaching online in a higher education environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies
- Curriculum development experience

- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Health Informatics and Information Management
- Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
