Salary: $16,218 - $20,575 / quarter base depending on experience & education
(Per quarter salary calculation: Base multiplied by class load %, ex.: $20,575 base * 50% teaching load = approx. $10,287.50)

Shoreline is looking for an innovative and dedicated part-time faculty member to teach core academic skills in one of our Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) programs. I-BEST students are both English language learners and native English speakers who may be at an entry skills level. The I-BEST Academic Skills Instructor will co-teach with a content instructor and be responsible for teaching contextualized math, reading, and/or writing in one of the following I-BEST programs: Automotive, Manufacturing, Nursing Assistant Certified, and Office Technology.
In addition to instruction, the I-BEST Academic Skills instructor will identify potential barriers to student success and will provide referrals to campus support services. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves non-traditional and immigrant/refugee students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds in an urban environment. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Transitional Studies.
Required Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in Education, Adult Education, TESOL, English, Math, or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Experience working in educational programs serving English language learners and/or basic skills students
- Experience teaching, training, or mentoring adults
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of mathematics, reading, and writing skills for basic skills students
- Contextualizing basic skills instruction for the subject/field-specific learning
- Demonstrating a sound knowledge of adult basic education learning standards (CCRS)
- Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online instruction) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Terms of Employment/Salary:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President. This position is overtime exempt.
