What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floor Manager position at Short's Brewing Company?
The Floor Manager helps manage the daily operations of our pub in Bellaire under the direction and oversight of the Assistant General Manager (AGM).
The Floor Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the pub. This includes leading the team as well as daily administrative duties. If employees are unable to work, a Floor Manager may have to call in alternates to cover for them, or fill in themselves. A Floor Manager also helps with running food, clearing tables, or other tasks when the pub becomes extremely busy. In other words, no job is too big or too small. If it needs to be done, the Floor Manager on duty will find a way to get it done.
This is an at-will, hourly position that reports to Assistant General Manager.
Daily Duties:
- Print beer lists
- Answer keg orders and requests. Facilitate pick-ups and returns.
- Respond to emails and requests from other departments as they come in.
- Respond to all South End inquiries during your next shift. If someone else is responsible for handling the enquiry let them know that the person will be in contact in the next few days.
- Report maintenance requests to the Maintenance Department.
- Monitor and ensure cleanliness inside and outside the pub.
- Update the website, beer list, slats, and POS as the beers on tap are changed.
- Understand how to fully operate TOAST.
- Bank deposits and change orders.
- Process and audit dailies.
- Answer the phone and transfer calls appropriately.
- Monitor stock and order office supplies.
- Monitor and stock dry goods, Izzes and root beer.
- Get the mail.
- Approve and record any schedule or shift changes.
- Attend management meetings.
- Monitor and update the website regarding beer, food, entertainment, etc.
- Send a daily manager report email.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace/office. Keep IT files and drives organized.
- Work with both breweries to obtain product information and monitor draft quality.
- Communicate issues and beer changes with the brewers. Change kegs and tanks as needed.
- Provide floor support during service hours. A manager is required to be on the floor during lunch and dinner hours “orchestrating” the service operations and providing support to the staff and customers as needed.
- Ensure that the staff is providing each guest with the best possible customer service.
- Manage any guest complaints or issues that come up. Problem-solve to ensure each situation is handled appropriately and every guest leaves happy. Report any of these issues daily.
- Monitor and assist in bussing, food running, pubtending, and hosting as needed.
- Work with the kitchen staff to communicate food and menu education with the rest of the pub staff.
- Solve any immediate operational issues (equipment, HR, etc.).
- Embrace the big picture goals that encompass Short’s beliefs and philosophies.
- Continue to improve product knowledge.
HR Support Duties:
- Promptly report all personnel and guest incidents to the AGM as soon as possible. All safety and policy issues must be reported to AGM immediately. No exceptions.
- Supervise personnel with diplomacy and tact. Constructively maintain staff enthusiasm and loyalty and while also pushing employees to be their best.
- Staff training, and coaching, education, and testing
- Maintain knowledge of workplace safety procedures to monitor safety in the workplace.
- Learn abilities and limitations of employees and work to optimize each employee’s potential.
- Staff Empowerment. Encourage creativity and staff involvement.
- Team building and staff unity.
- Consistently enforce job SOPs, attendance policies, and our handbook.
- Report to Payroll and HR when an employee leaves the company.
- Managers should never become romantically or intimately involved with co-workers/subordinates. An effective leader must be above his or her own social agenda in the workplace.
AM Shift Specific Responsibilities:
- Complete the morning walk-through following the checklist to ensure everything is ready to open.
- Prepare a floor plan for the shift.
PM Shift Specific Responsibilities:

- Manage the closing checklist to ensure all tasks have been completed.
Physical Requirements:
- Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching.
- Must be able to stand for the entire shift up to ten hours.
- Occasionally climbs ladders.
- Consistently able to use repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Work with hot, cold and hazardous equipment.
- Climb stairs several times a day.
- Frequent washing of hands.
Other Requirements:
- Consistently utilize math skills to accurately take money, return proper change and perform calculations.
- Consistently read and write orders and draft emails. Ability to complete forms.
- Consistently operate phones, computers, copiers scanners, and other office equipment.
- Consistently and accurately use POS.
- Communicate clearly with employees and customers, verbally and written.
- Frequent problem solving.
- Consistently and frequently manage employees.
- TIPS certified.
