What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at Show Low Unified School District?
This position involves a variety of personnel and payroll duties, as well as secretarial duties. Other aspects of employment and record-keeping accompany responsibility for the personnel and payroll operations in the district. Work is performed under minimal supervision and within established procedures and state USFR guidelines. Keeping sensitive information confidential is a critical part of this job.
Preparation of payroll, biweekly vouchers, and timekeeping for all staff is required. Answering related questions via phone or email as required. Annual preparation of staff contracts and work agreements. Administration of employee benefits, workers' compensation, and unemployment verification are performed in this position. Must have an eye for detail and be able to perform repetitive data entry with high accuracy. Able to complete tasks in a timely and professional manner. Also, coordinate with HR to ensure a seamless hiring process. Helps keep personnel files up to date and accurate.
- Preparation of payroll for the District.
- Pay or bill for payroll deductions and keep federal, state, and local forms current for personnel files.
- Independently prepares memos, bulletins, reports, etc.
- Prepares and maintains district reports, records, and files.
- Handles inquiries from the public, students, or staff that require knowledge of district policy or procedure.
- Performs personnel functions (i.e., reviews certification, administers employment procedures, and confidential files.)
- Operates, with accuracy, office machines such as a computer, typewriter, and calculator.
- Maintains employee insurance information and billings.
- Maintains all employee personnel files.
- Preparation of audit materials.
- Working knowledge of USFR as it pertains to the job area.
- Other duties as assigned within the area of job responsibility.
Directly responsible to the Business Manager.
At least 2 years of large-scale payroll/personnel experience, along with good math skills and careful attention to detail in the preparation of payroll materials. Computer competency is necessary, along with good communication skills, including listening and writing. Background in dealing with personnel-related problems is desired, as well as the ability to analyze problems and find alternative solutions. The ability to maintain confidentiality and cope with deadlines and high volumes of data continuously. Knowledge of Arizona USFR Accounting Procedures and District Policies as it pertains to job area. Excellent communication skills are required. Must work cooperatively with other personnel and must be able to exercise good judgment.
