Job Overview
The HIM Clerk performs various HIM functions and responsibilities including processing information for continuity of care, retrieving records from all treatment areas, prepping and scanning records into SHCIS, and other duties as assigned. We have an opportunity for a Full-Time Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk in our Portland facility.
Responsibilities
- Chart Processing
- Prep, validate and scan paper medical record documents in SHCIS.
- Close inactive charts.
- Meets established Productivity standards.
- Meets established accuracy standard for chart processing.
- Assists in processing internal and external ROI requests as needed.
- Ensures authorizations for release of health information are HIPAA compliant and releases patient information in accordance with minumum necessary guidelines.
- Assists in answering department calls and routes to appropriate areas.
- Responding to customer queries in a timely and accurate way, via phone, email, or fax.
- High School Diploma or GED, required
- Associate in HIM Management, preferred
- Bachelor in HIM Management, preferred
- One year customer service, required
- One year healthcare experience in medical records processing operation, preferred
- American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credentialed, preferred
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) through AHIMA, preferred
