Summary
The Members and Communities Director (MCD) activates the strategy and initiatives with SHRM State Councils, SHRM Chapters, and communities to achieve SHRM's objectives and goals. The MCD role primarily focuses on business development, account management, and relationship building. With a focus on growing the SHRM community and dual membership (both SHRM member and SHRM chapter member), the Membership Communities Director (MCD) works with affiliates to gain alignment on SHRM initiatives, drive membership acquisition, foster effective communication, and elevate engagement and collaboration that leads to shared business goals in driving membership retention and acquisition, sales of products and services, and promoting SHRM's strategic initiatives. This position serves as the primary account and relationship manager for the SHRM Chapter and State Council distribution channel, providing a single point of contact in an assigned geographic area. The role is critical in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders inside SHRM, SHRM affiliates, and the community. This role requires HR expertise, extensive sales and relationship account management, customer service, business operations, project management, consulting, and public speaking experience.
Responsibilities :
- Responsible for membership growth through retention and new acquisitions in assigned regions.
- Identifies opportunities for growing customer communities in assigned regions. Analyzes data to assess market demand, identify target demographics, and evaluate potential growth opportunities.
- Plans and executes strategy to achieve the mission, business, operational, and financial results for SHRM’s State Councils, Professional Chapters, and Student Chapters within their assigned specific geographic region. The MCD partners with key SHRM resources to develop the tools and resources that meet the business objectives of SHRM and the SHRM affiliate.
- Responsible for business development, account management, engagement, strategic planning, succession planning, and leadership development of SHRM State Councils, Professional Chapters, Student Chapters, and members (in-chapter and member At Large) within their assigned geographic region. This includes affiliate volunteer leader succession planning, strategic planning, volunteer leader development and training, and leading Core Leadership Areas.
- Manages relationships with SHRM State Councils, Professional Chapters, and Student Chapters and coordinates all SHRM stakeholder input in securing SHRM business objectives with the affiliates. This includes member acquisition and retention, member engagement, sales of metered products and services, and volunteer development, engagement, and retention.
- Creates and executes an account and relationship plan for each individual key affiliate to meet SHRM and the affiliates' mutual business objectives. Responsibilities include compiling data and key financial information, developing proposed SHRM partnership offerings, ensuring affiliation governance requirements, and achieving financial, membership, and programmatic key performance indicators for SHRM business objectives.
- Oversees affiliation, governance requirements, and compliance for Affiliates (State Councils, Professional Chapters, and Student Chapters).
- Manages financial and staff resources to meet the goals and objectives of SHRM with key affiliates executing SHRM’s engagement strategy.
- Utilizes data analytics tools to assess membership trends and identify areas for improvement.
- Manages the affiliate partnership support and branding at SHRM State Councils and Chapter conferences, education programs, and meetings, supporting SHRM's strategic objectives with these affiliates.
- Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and education support to develop volunteer leadership within SHRM State Council and Professional and Student Chapters and ensure the alignment of the affiliates with SHRM strategy and objectives.
- Provides presentations on SHRM, human resources, and workplace topics at conferences and other settings to support SHRM objectives.
- Speaks publicly for affiliates and other businesses while represented by the SHRM Affiliate Presentation Center.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

The hiring range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package. The benefits for this position include professional growth and development, health, dental, vision, well-being, health savings, flexible spending, retirement, open leave, and annual discretionary bonus and incentives.
