Garden Center Manager

Sickles Market, home of 2 Specialty Food Stores, Lifestyle Service, a Wine & Spirits Shop, and a top notch Garden Center, located throughout Monmouth County, NJ, is looking for a Garden Center Manager for our Little Silver, NJ location. The Garden Center Manager has day-to-day responsibility for the development of team members, business operation, and overall results of the department. The manager will be asked to oversee all retail garden center functions and will have financial accountability for garden center level performance. In addition to sales, the manager will have direct involvement with support functions, including but not limited to: purchasing, buying, marketing, customer service, inventory management, recruitment, training, and more. Person who fills this role must possess the ability to coach, mentor, and continue to build strong leaders that can work as a collective unit. This job requires a minimum of 5-7 years of retail greenhouse, business farming, garden center, or wholesale experience.

Below you will find additional key requirements and responsibilities that will be assigned to the Garden Center Manager:

•Develop and implement retail sales, merchandising, and customer service strategies
•Supervise garden center team members and ensure their success in achieving company and individual goals while positioning the department for growth
•Lead and direct, with primary focus on sales performance through daily operational excellence, to ensure the department/business meets standards for visual presentation, brand and customer experience, and safety
•Coach garden center teams to develop and maintain operational best practices
•Monitor and analyze business trends and develop plans to maximize sales to meet or exceed goals for sales, payroll, expense control, and garden center profitability
•Develop and implement processes and procedures that ensure a great shopping experience; arrange products so that they are easy to find, in-stock, and presented in a way that inspires purchase
•Continuously seek opportunities to grow sales and improve operational productivity
•Act as the liaison between garden center teams and support teams within the business; identify week spots and escalate issues while developing and implementing solutions
•Oversee all garden center inventory control, purchasing, buying, sales, and promotions while keeping in mind seasonality and new trends
•Manage physical inventory and the cycle count process across all sectors of the garden center; coordinate cross functional teams and technology, reconciliation, reporting and analysis
•Travel periodically to existing garden centers and prospective garden centers and markets to gain industry knowledge
•Recruit, hire, and train garden center team members to deliver results through effectively and independently managing all aspects of the business
•Oversee garden center leaders in all aspects of talent management and development, including hiring and onboarding, training, and performance evaluation
•Resolve all human resources issues with urgency and in an effective manner, partner with internal HR department where applicable
•Understand and collaborate on bringing the company culture throughout areas of the garden center; drive employee engagement and job satisfaction
•Partner closely with the purchasing team to establish the correct product assortment and product availability to achieve sales goals
•Drive execution and compliance of retail marketing initiatives, including product placement and signage direction
•Analyze merchandise performance related data, developing and implementing actions that drive sales and margin performance

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
