Summary

The Library Resource Manager leads the Library Operations team within Sidley’s Library and Research Services department, ensuring that Sidley's global attorneys and professional staff have reliable and timely access to library resources and information. The position oversees the procedures, policies and workflows that connect users with print and digital content, and implement best practices and continuous improvements. They work closely with the Library team and other stakeholders to support the firm's research and information needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Staff Management: Responsible for all aspects of managing the staff responsible for receiving, processing, and providing access to the library’s print and digital collections. Manage the day-to-day operations of the team.
  • ILS Administration: Manage the Integrated Library System, ensuring its availability and functionality. Collaborate with vendors and IT to maintain, support and enhance the catalog.
  • Metadata standards and oversight: Ensure the quality and consistency of bibliographic and authority data in the catalog and other portals. Perform original and copy cataloging for print and electronic resources, following best practices in metadata strategy. Oversee the batch upload of catalog records from vendors, and verify their accuracy and compatibility. Identify and prioritize projects to revise and update data to reflect the library's assets and history.
  • Training: Train the Operations team on policies and procedures related to their roles. Oversee the administration of library training initiatives.
  • Collection Management: Curate and catalog the firm’s digital and print resources for legal research, including library books and desk copies. Establish procedures and policies for serials check-in, processing, and distribution of print materials. Collaborate with the Director of Library Operations and Research Managers to establish, refine, and carry out print collection policies. Partner with local office managers to manage print in all offices.
  • Process improvement: Develop and support Best Practices for the Operations department. Continually improve the processes and procedures for collection services for all Sidley's libraries. Document procedures and policies.
  • Strategic plans: Participate in the Library and Research Services leadership team. Participate in the ongoing assessment and enhancement of library resources and technology.

 

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section. Target Salary Range

$110,000 - $130,000 if located in Illinois

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: 

Required:

  • A MLS from an ALA Accredited University.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a library technical services or operations department.
  • A minimum of 3 years management experience.
  • Project management and planning skills.
  • Experience with integrated library management systems.
  • Knowledge of MARC, Library of Congress Subject Headings and classification systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite, web-based products.
  • Experience managing user accounts for research tools.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the Lucidea SydneyEnterprise Integrated Library System.
  • Previous law firm experience.
  • Experience with Tableau, Sharepoint, LibGuides, and Vable.
