JOB DESCRIPTION
INSTRUCTIONAL COACH
Sidney Middle School
Reports to: Principal
JOB OBJECTIVES:
The Instructional Coach will be a highly qualified educator who is knowledgeable about curriculum and instruction and is able to increase student learning by fostering instructional excellence. The Instructional Coach will deliver professional development, providing collaborative and one-on-one support to teachers, coaching and modeling instructional and assessment strategies, and providing feedback that ensures effective instruction and student learning. The Instructional Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Ohio Educator License
- Minimum of five years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience
- Successful experience as a mentor
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Desire to be an Instructional Leader
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Communicate effectively in writing and speaking, using positive interpersonal skills to share research-based instructional strategies with teachers and administrators while providing mentoring and coaching
- Utilize data-driven problem-solving and demonstrate strong collaboration and coaching skills
- Coach teachers on effective instructional strategies across various content areas and apply strategies for differentiated instruction
- Show knowledge of standards-based curriculum and integrate technology into classroom instruction
- Engage in workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework to stay updated on current instructional trends
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create a supportive instructional environment for effective teaching.
- Model learning strategies in classrooms.
- Evaluate instructional needs across subjects and collaborate with teachers and administrators to utilize assessment data for improvement.
- Guide teachers in collecting and analyzing data to develop action plans.
- Assist teachers in analyzing assessment data to evaluate student responses.
- Provide individual diagnostic testing upon request.
- Support curriculum personnel in achieving accountability goals towards district plan and building plans
- Collaborate with leadership teams to identify strengths and areas for instructional improvement.
- Assist teachers in planning and scaffolding instruction.
- Participate in reviews of at-risk students’ academic progress.
- Work with staff to ensure smooth transitions between school levels.
- Attend scheduled meetings
- Support the district and school in providing services to special populations.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Provide inservice training and ongoing coaching to help classroom teachers implement learning strategies effectively.
- Collaborate with teachers individually and in teams to offer practical support on a variety of instructional strategies within the content area.
- Observe classroom instruction and give feedback to enhance content knowledge and teaching methods.
- Participate in district-level inservice meetings and aid in coordinating district offerings.
- Pursue professional growth through workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework to enhance teaching skills.
- Coordinate school-based professional development aligned with district CCIP and OIP plans.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote instructional and lifelong learning
- Submit accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy
- Participate in school instructional groups and committees
- Build positive relationships with faculty and staff
- Attend all required meetings and uphold school rules and policies
- Ensure the safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
