Position: Legal Intake Coordinator
Location: Truckee, CA, and lakeside as needed.
Hours: 32 hours per week, four 8-hour workdays, Monday-Thursday
Compensation: Competitive non-exempt, hourly wage based on experience, starting range is $30.05 -33.35 per hour, DOE

Sierra Community House is seeking a Legal Intake Coordinator. The Legal Intake Coordinator will perform a variety of tasks to support the day-to-day operations of the Mediation and Legal Assistance Program (MLA) at Sierra Community House. Provide initial assessment and intake for those seeking information and/or services from MLA, support ongoing cases, coordinate and support Education and Outreach and maintain a welcoming office environment. Tasks include coordinating and answering MLA program phone calls, scheduling, intakes, referring participants, data entry, providing legal advocacy services to Sierra Community House participants who are experiencing immigration, family law, and other legal issues, and other related tasks. The Legal Intake Coordinator must have deep reserves of kindness and patience and must be able to extend kindness and patience even (especially) when it is not reciprocated. The Legal Intake Coordinator must be able to read, write, speak and listen competently in both English and Spanish.
As the ability to drive without restrictions is essential to this position, upon hire, a printout of the employee's DMV record is required. In order to ensure the new hire meets the required standards of both the job position and the overall industry, fingerprinting is required, as well. New employees will schedule an appointment for fingerprinting through one of our approved locations during the first week of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or 2-3 years of experience working in the field of customer service, family support, marketing or community outreach.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation.
- Fluency in speaking and writing in English/Spanish, required.
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Strong decision-making skills, initiative, and comfort with ambiguity.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Must be able to follow instructions and work independently as well as part of a team and be detail-oriented Computer skills are required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of Sierra Community house participants, partners, and donors.
- Must be able to engage compassionately and non-judgmentally with vulnerable populations.
Partial Job Description:
- Welcomes visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone.
- Connect community members to appropriate resource and/or referral.
- Assess visitor needs and direct them appropriately or schedule appointments with team members as appropriate.
- Provides emergency boxes and cooking compromised bags to walk-in community members. Accept and process food donations.
- Assess donor or partner inquiries and assist or refer as appropriate.
- Serves as a liaison of case management for advocacy program.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality as it relates to clients, personnel, the agency and all records/documents.
- Provide occasional administrative support for program staff, including data entry,
- Assist with other related duties, such as office supply tracking, photocopying, faxing, filing and collating.
- Schedule and deliver Know Your Rights and Be Prepared training sessions at least twice per month with school districts.
- Organize at least one monthly in-house legal education session on key topics.
- Track community inquiries, ensuring timely responses and identifying trends for future training.
- Develop new educational materials such as guides, presentations, or online training modules.
- Seek and apply for funding opportunities to enhance marketing and training accessibility.
- Maintain relationships with local chambers, coalitions, and advocacy networks.
- Receive incoming legal referrals from staff and partners.
- Triage and assess client needs and answer basic legal questions.
- Perform conflict checks on all incoming referrals by cross-referencing New Org to ensure the opposing party is not already receiving services from Sierra Community House.
- If there is a conflict, the coordinator notifies the Mediation and Legal Assistance Manager about the conflict and notifies the person seeking legal services.
- If there is no conflict and the services requested are within the scope of the Legal Program, then the Intake Coordinator moves forward with scheduling. If the community member’s need is outside of scope, or they prefer to be represented by an attorney, or they are out of the service area, the Intake Coordinator will make appropriate referrals. Assists with securing private meeting space.
- Assist legal program with community member communications, such as reminding them of appointments, upcoming court dates, documents to bring to appointments, directions to courthouse, etc.
- Upload community member documents to their profile in New Org.
- Assist participants with civil legal issues, including conducting client interviews, developing client statements, preparing court forms, and assisting participants with navigating court and other legal systems.
- Support Direct Service staff regarding legal issues that may arise when working with participants.
- Maintain client files and enter client information into database.
- Attend regular Legal Team meetings.
- Demonstrate familiarity with community resources.
- Maintain general knowledge of civil law.
- Additional administrative assistance, as needed.
