We are seeking a highly skilled Tree Improvement and Conservation Expert to join our team at Sierra Pacific Industries. As a key member of our nursery operations, you will play a critical role in managing our state-of-the-art conifer orchard, ensuring the health and sustainability of our forest ecosystems. Your expertise in tree improvement, conservation, and nursery operations will be instrumental in achieving our goals.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will assist in managing our conifer orchard, applying herbicides and insecticides to control weeds and cone insects, planning wild cone collection projects, and maintaining accurate GIS data related to cone harvest. You will also perform cultural activities such as mowing, fertilizer application, grafting, and pruning, as well as maintain orchard irrigation systems. Additionally, you will work collaboratively with a team on various nursery activities at the adjacent Conifer Seedling Nursery.Operate four-wheel drive vehicles and farm equipment such as tractors and orchard lifts effectively.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Agriculture, or a related field, or have 2 years of relevant work experience. A California Pest Control Advisors (PCA) license with weed pest category is preferred, as is familiarity with herbicides commonly used in forestry or orchard applications. Strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to long-term projects are essential, as are proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based software programs. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team is also required.
