Machine Builder
SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Machine Builder plays a critical role in the assembly, testing, repair, and maintenance of custom packaging machinery for Bag-in-Box (BIB) and Spouted Pouch (SP) systems. This position combines hands-on assembly and machining expertise to build and maintain high-precision equipment that meets Scholle IPN/SIG’s quality and operational standards. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the engineering team to ensure equipment functionality, reliability, and efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assemble packaging machinery and components according to engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Install mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
- Conduct functional testing of machines to verify performance and identify any assembly issues.
- Operate machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment) to fabricate or modify components as needed for assembly or repairs.
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to machine precise components.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers).
- Conduct in-depth testing of assembled machinery to ensure it meets operational and safety standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical issues, working with engineering teams to resolve problems.
- Work closely with engineers to provide feedback on designs and suggest improvements to enhance machinery performance.
- Assist in the prototyping and testing of new equipment designs.
- Perform quality checks on both assembled machines and fabricated parts to ensure they meet company and industry standards.
- Document any deviations or issues encountered during assembly or machining.
- Perform routine maintenance on existing packaging machinery to minimize downtime.
- Repair or replace worn or damaged machine components as necessary.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines when operating machinery or handling materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to ensure a safe working environment.
YOU BRING THESE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred. - Experience:
- 3 years of experience in machine building, industrial equipment assembly, or machining in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with packaging equipment or in the food and beverage industry is a strong plus.:
- Proficiency in operating machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, CNC) and assembling complex machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems.
- Knowledge of PLCs and automation systems is a plus.
