Description

Overview
The Financial Controller for Sightglass Coffee Roasters is responsible for all finance, accounting, and reporting activities for the company, which also includes cash management and risk management. This is a dynamic position that requires exceptional communication,
leadership, and a big picture vision while working closely with Sightglass Executive Leadership to strategize and implement a financial growth plan for Sightglass. The below outline is a summary of expectations that fall under the position of “Financial Controller” for Sightglass Coffee Roasters.
 

Qualifications


General Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong control environment and improve various processes to achieve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership within the evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies and regulatory action.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the company.
  • Work with Executive Leadership to analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels.
  • Interpret financial transactions and events for users who make financial or operational decisions.

Accounting

  • Oversee and ensure that accounts payable are always paid on time, and accounts receivable are promptly collected and recorded.
  • Manage accounts receivable according to established trade terms and maintain a current balance. 
  • Ensure that required debt payments are always made on time.
  • Responsible for day-to-day general ledger accounting and journal entries such as bank reconciliations, payroll, purchase order system, inventory accounting.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

Financial Reporting & Planning

  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports to Executive Leadership.
  • Develop financial reports for financial analysis, forecasting, trending and results analysis.
  • Communicate and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with Executive Leadership.
  • Manage cash flow, cash flow projections and related reporting.

Compliance

  • Ensure policies and procedures are up to the highest professional standards and are within state and federal regulations.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and oversee tax filing (through 3rd party).

3rd Party/Outside consulting

  • Manage all outsourced financial activities.
  • Work with 3rd party CPA to present quarterly reports to Executive Leadership.
  • Play a critical role in tax related issues, specifically filing monthly, quarterly and annual state, local tax returns, and investor K-1’s.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end financial close and audit process. Coordinate closing tasks with key internal contributors and provide supporting documentation and reconciliations to outside accountants/auditors as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of progressively increasing experience in high performing accounting teams
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting with BS Accounting or CPA preferred
  • Background in CPG with retail and wholesale components, with an emphasis on specialty coffee preferred
  • Proficient in G-Suite, Microsoft office, and highly proficient to expert in Excel
  • Experience managing tax liabilities and reporting for multiple agencies and jurisdictions
  • Working familiarity with various financial tech systems: ERP (NetSuite, Filemaker, Bill.com), POS (Toast), etc
  • Hands-on leader – the ability to dig into details while maintaining the big picture is critical
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable and credible with internal stakeholders and external audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • Strategic thinker who is also able to pragmatically solve day-to-day problems
  • Unquestionable ethics – treats people with respect; keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works with integrity

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to maneuver effectively around the San Francisco office location, including up and down stairs.
  • Flexibility to work offsite, from home, and travel to the Los Angeles region as needed.
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers for computer operation
  • Ability to sit; talk on phone, for long periods of time
